DIY Father’s Day Gift Idea, ” I love Daddy because. . . “

Father’s Day  is around the corner, but there’s still time to put together this fun and thoughtful gift. This particular one we actually gave to my husband for his birthday a couple of years ago (so no gift spoilers here honey; sorry!)  but I think it makes the perfect Father’s Day present to remind dads of the many reasons they are cherished and important.

I love Daddy because . . .

I love Daddy because. . .

Interview your child(ren) for some great answers to the question  “I love Daddy because. . . ” record the answers on a nice piece of scrapbook paper. A small chalkboard would be super cute, too! If your child is old enough to write the answers him/herself, that would be even better! Take photos of your child holding the different “answers” to the question. (Do not hesitate to bribe your child with a lollipop or piece of chocolate in order to get great pics! 😉 ) You don’t have to be a professional; just capture the natural moments. You could even get some great images from your camera phone!  It can sometimes help to ask your child to think about their dad/the answer they gave to the question while you’re snapping the photos so that you get a more natural expression from them.

There are lots of fun ways you could present these images. Use your favorite photo editing software to create a collage (there are lots of great tutorials out there on how to do this; if you’re using your iPhone, diptic is a super easy collage app.) I chose to have our final image printed and mounted on a ready-to-hang “standout” from mpix, but if I were doing it again I might print on canvas or, my new favorite, have the final image mounted on an eco-friendly wood panel from plywerk (although turn-around time is a bit longer.)  You could also create a photo book (this would be especially great for larger families — a couple of pages for each child) put a photo card together, print the images individually and place them in a frame with multiple openings, present the images in a slideshow for dad . . .  I’m sure there are lots of other great ideas too!

Whatever you decide to do, have fun! And Happy (early) Father’s Day to all the awesome dads out there!
