a little bit of zen as we head into the weekend. . . i photographed this pink lotus while on a short photo walk the other day at el pedregal.

because lotus flowers bloom and thrive in the murkiest of waters, they are considered by many cultures to be a symbol of transformation, spiritual awakening, strength and beauty; the pink lotus is especially revered.

i had some fun editing this image and processed it a little differently than usual. . .  i added a layer of texture to the areas around the flower, removing the texture from the flower itself which made the lotus “pop” even more and, hopefully, added to the symbolism.
